Pterostylis nana aka Linguella nana, Dwarf Greenhood, Tiny Pterostylis or Snail Orchid
Kingdom: Plantae
Division: Angiosperm
Class: Monocot
Order: Asparagales
Family: Orchidaceae
Subfamily: Orchidoideae
Tribe: Diurideae
Cromer Conservation Park, South Australia – July 28th, 2014 – soggy conditions, amongst moss and leaf litter on ground

We had wanted to see Greenhoods in Cromer, but had seen nothing all day – I turned to my brother who was doing a grid search some yards away and said dispiritedly “We’re never going to see any Orchids here!” – I slumped my shoulders and looked away from my brother at the ground, and I kid you not – There exactly where I was eyeballing was a species I had never seen before – It was so small that when I looked away to call the others excitedly (We do a lot of that, by the way),  and looking back, I was momentarily distressed because I couldn’t see it! – Since then it has been our practice in times of slim pickins’ to exclaim theatrically “We’re never going to find Orchids here!” – Heehee!
