As an artist, I respond to the less obvious and dramatic colours of this species, and the shapes are very dramatic – The two hanging petals seem to curve back more than Diuris orientis – I am such a fan of this species, and I waited a year to get these shots, never imagining I would find such large and splendid examples in one location, but as I have said before, our orchids are almost always smaller than their tropical counterparts, and these are no exception!

We had to head up to the higher sunny spots on Anstey Hill to find these, and they were an exhilarating sight – I nearly walked straight off an unexpected cliff I was so entranced – They were very plentiful, and their unusual colours immediately set them apart from Diuris orientis, the Wallflower Donkey Orchid.
